What you need to rent a car in Georgia

Renting a car in Georgia is refreshingly light on bureaucracy compared with much of Europe. Here is what is actually required. A valid driving licence. For short visits your national licence is accepted. An international driving permit is not usually required, but bring one if your licence is not written in Latin script — it removes any argument at a police check. Age. The minimum is 18 with us, which is lower than many international chains ask. Some categories require a higher age; we will tell you at booking rather than at the counter. Payment. You pay when you collect the car, in cash or by card. Booking on the site does not charge anything up front. A second driver. Free to add — just give us the name when booking, so the agreement covers them. Do not let someone drive who is not on the agreement; that is the one thing that turns a small incident into an expensive one. What is included without asking: full insurance and unlimited mileage, on every car and every rental length. Extras are optional and priced openly — a child seat is €10 a day, a local SIM card €15. What to check before you drive away, with any company: photograph the car from all four corners, check the spare and the jack, and make sure the fuel level on the paperwork matches the gauge. We do this walk-around with you, but the photos are yours to keep. And finally, the practical one nobody lists: know where you are going before you set off. Mountain routes take longer than the map claims, and some of them want a different car.
